Our time in the capital Vientiane had come to and end and we prepared for onward travel. Our traveling companions from a previous Vietnam trip, Karen and Paul had arrived from Perth so we were ready to set off. On the last night we met a dutch friend of theirs who lives in VT who took us to a restaurant that specialised in self serve barbecue. It consisted of an inverted dome shaped grill over a charcoal brazier. hen we were on our own to grill meat, fish and veg until the juices ran down into a well where you ladelled in stock to make delicious soup.
Next day we took the bus to Vand Vieng, party town for young backpackers. Set in beautiful karst landscapes with a river the town was a mash of beer joints and rubber tubing and kayaking concessions. We did a 40 km loop bike ride to various caves, villages and wonderful swimming hole.
